RESURRECCIÓN DE UN CONTINENTE

RESURRECTION OF A CONTINENT

Latin America unites in new bloc, US not invited

Thirty-three LATIN AMERICAN leaders have come together and formed a new regional bloc, pledging closer economic and political ties. The Community of LATIN AMERICAN and CARIBBEAN STATES (CELAC) pointedly excludes the USA and CANADA.
On the second day of a summit in the VENEZUELAN capital, Caracas, all LATIN AMERICAN leaders, both right and left, officially signed into effect the formation of the CELAC bloc. The foundation of the bloc has been praised as the realization of the two-centuries-old idea of LATIN AMERICAN “independence” envisioned by Simon Bolivar.

Analysts view CELAC as an alternative to the Washington-based ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES (OAS) and as an attempt by LATIN AMERICAN countries to reduce US influence in the region.
However Washington does not see CELAC as a replacement to OAS. US Department of State spokesman Mark Toner said the US will continue “to work through the OAS as the pre-eminent multilateral organization, speaking for the hemisphere.”

Political analysts are of the opinion that the US views CELAC as a potential threat to its hegemony in the region.

The 33 leaders pledged to withstand the financial crisis that has struck EUROPE and other developed countries.
BRAZIL’S Dilma Rousseff stressed that the LATIN AMERICAN countries would need to rely more on their neighbors amid the global economic turmoil.
“The economic, financial crisis should be at the center of our concerns,” Rousseff said. She said LATIN AMERICA should “realize that to guarantee its current cycle of development despite the international economic turbulence, it means that every politician must be aware that each one needs the others.”

CHILEAN President Sebastian Pinera, who assumed the initial rotating presidency at CELAC, expressed hopes that the bloc would help build regional cooperation despite the differences between some of the 33 member states.

The leaders also discussed cooperation in the field of drug trafficking and climate change.
CELAC should be a “political union to build a large power center of the 21st century,” the VENEZUELAN president said, stressing strong regional growth as many countries in the region develop closer ties with ASIA or EUROPE and reduce their traditional reliance on the US.

The formation of CELAC was warmly welcomed by rising global power, CHINA. Hu pledged to deepen cooperation with the CELAC and underlined that in the 21st century the relations between CHINA and LATIN AMERICA have seen all-round and fast development with expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation, according to Xinhua news agency.

The countries of CELAC have a combined population of nearly 600 MILLION PEOPLE, and a COMBINED GDP OF ABOUT US$6 TRILLION – about a third of the combined output of the US and Canada.

SYRIA - PSY OPS WAR?

SYRIA….WHY?

The ongoing conflict in Syria has become a complex situation in which no one can verify what actually is occurring in the country and what intentions are behind the uproar. If adhering to main stream media information the Free Syrian Army and the Syrian opposition council in the UK are waging a war for freedom and democracy.
If one looks at the situation from an alternative angle the situation is more complex and one could come to the conclusion that indeed foreign entities are waging a PSY OPS war which is supported by foreign entities in which TURKEY was chosen to play the proxy for the USA in order to topple the SYRIAN Regime.

THE ALTERNATIVE TO LIBYAN STYLE INTERVENTION SYRIA – PSY OPS AND INFILTRATION THROUGH PROXY’S

The big question is the why? In recent past it was assumed that though ASSAD is a brutal dictator, it was the better evil then to have an unstable fundamentalist Islamic Regime governing Syria which in most likelihood would end in civil war, something ISRAEL and the USA would dearly try to avoid. Now it seems that this theory is one of the past. There are entities that sincerely wish to tumble the ASSAD regime, no matter the cost.
A LIBYAN style NATO intervention in SYRIA had been ruled out from the beginning since RUSSIAS and CHINAS have vetoed such move right from the start. Furthermore it is and was difficult to sell such expensive intervention to potential voters among western “coalition countries” in times of a major financial crisis where the same governments demand from citizens as well as industries to curb in spending, thus it would have been hard to sell such expensive military style intervention to the public.

This still leaves us with the question why suddenly so much emphasize is put on the tumbling of the ASSAD regime. Regardless of the outcome of the SYRIAN sage, life for the common people will not turn for the better and democracy will continue to be just a dream in the region.

Arms build up in the Middle East

Russia Sent Syria
Super-Advanced S-300 Missiles

Russian warships that have reached waters off Syria in recent days were carrying, among other things, Russian technical advisors who will help the Syrians set up an array of S-300 missiles Damascus has received in recent weeks, a report in the London-based Arabic language Al Quds-Al Arabi said Thursday. Citing sources in Syria and Russia, the paper said that Moscow sees a Western attack on Syria as a “red line” that it will not tolerate.

Despite the mounting opposition in the West and even in the Arab world against Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad for his assaults on protesters seeking to unseat him as leader of the country, Russia maintains its support for Assad, the report said. Russian and Syria military officials are working together to maintain Assad's rule, and to deflect a possible attack by NATO or the US and EU.

Along with the missiles, the report says that Russia has installed advanced radar systems in all key Syrian military and industrial installations. The radar system also covers areas north and south of Syria, where it will be able to detect movement of troops or aircraft towards the Syrian border. The radar targets include much of Israel, as well as the Incirlik military base in Turkey, which is used by NATO.

The S-300 system is regarded as one of the most potent anti-aircraft missile systems available. The system's radar is able to simultaneously track up to 100 targets while engaging up to 12. Deployment time for the S-300 is five minutes, and they have a very long life span, with no maintenance needed.

Russia had attempted to sell the system to Iran, but that sale was cancelled due to pressure by the US and Israel, with Russia returning Iran's deposit. According to the report, the Iranians paid for Syria's S-300 missile system. It is not known if some of the missiles have reached Iran as well.

SYRIA: INTERNATIONAL WAR MONGERING, OR REAL THREAT?

INTERESTING GEO – STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT

In recent past TURKEY has permitted NATO to erect missile defense radar that will detect Iranian Missile launches and thus indirectly supports ISRAEL with whom in recent past, diplomatic ties have somewhat suffered, officially because of the GAZA Flotilla incident, unofficially because of the gas findings in the Easter Mediterranean Sea and ISRAELS “flirting” with TURKEYS arch enemy, GREECE and CYPRUS.

In a remarkable turn of events RUSSIA suddenly announced it has activated a radar warning system in the western region of KALININGRAD in response to a planned US missile shield in EUROPE. That is the official statement. In reality it is a response to NATO radar in TURKEY and the looming threat of NATO or other foreign intervention in SYRIA.

Furthermore MOSCOW is deploying warships to its base in the SYRIAN port of TARTUS. The long-planned mission comes, providentially, at the very moment when it could help prevent a potential conflict in the strategically important MIDDLE EASTERN country.
The RUSSIAN battle group will consist of three vessels led by the heavy aircraft-carrying missile cruiser.
This move was planned a year ago and has nothing to do with the ongoing crisis in the region; according to a RUSSIAN military official who was quoted by Izvestia newspaper. Apart from SYRIA, the aircraft carrier and its escort ships are set to visit the LEBANESE capital, BEIRUT, GENOA in ITALY and CYPRUS.
Nevertheless, the RUSSIAN Military official stated that the presence of a military force other than NATO’s is very useful for this region, as it will apparently prevent the outbreak of an armed conflict in the region.
Russia allegedly created a special naval squadron to deter Western military forces in the Mediterranean Sea. To repair and supply its ships, Moscow needed its own maintenance base in the region, and that was how the base in Tartus came into being. At present, the base is mostly used to support vessels of Russia’s Black Sea fleet. Some 600 military and civilian personnel of the Defense Ministry serve there.

News of Russia’s naval deployment in TARTUS came shortly after the US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George HW Bush anchored off Syria, along with additional naval vessels. The US battle group is to remain in the Mediterranean, allegedly to conduct maritime security operations and support missions as part of Operations Enduring Freedom and New Dawn.

RUSSIAN UAV DEPLOYMENT IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Allegedly RUSSIA has increased its research and development program into UAV (Unman Aerial Vehicles, also known as (UAS) unmanned aircraft system, or (RPA) remotely piloted aircraft) operations and is rumored to deploy them in the region in due course.
