STORM
CLOUDS LOOMING OVER ARGENTINA?
It is election year in ARGENTINA
and current standing see three presidential hopefuls running for president, DANIEL
SCIOLI, MAURICIO MACRI and SERGIO MASSA.
In the cause of events we will be scrutinizing each one of them, but for
now face on MAURICIO MACRI, the ultra-conservative mayor of the city of BUENOS
AIRES, who in most likelihood will turn back the wheel in time to once again
put ARGENTINA into the classic neoliberal carrousel and debt, the country had
been in under the military junta and the MENEM era.
Meaning he will most likely
be selling out the country to international corporations and perusing the
neoliberal agenda instigated by the IMF and the WORLD BANK, thus putting ARGENTINA
back under the claws of these organizations, who for years now have been
longing to gain access to ARGENTINES vast amount of natural resources. For the VULTURE
FUNDS such as PAUL SINGES ELLIOT MANAGEMENT,
president hopeful MACRI would be a welcomed “Christmas gift” for he
already pledged, that if elected he would pay out the VULTURE FUNDS in
full!
The current government,
which corporate media and the conservatives in ARGENTINA portray as being
corrupt,
(Meaning that MENEM and the Junta
were not corrupt? See: When ARGENTINA was the “Sunny boy” of the IMF under
president MENEM, who unquestionably followed IMF doctrine of privatizing state
assets.... http://geopoliticsrst.blogspot.com/2012/04/argentina-and-repsol.html )
has been a thorn in the
eye of neoliberal entities such as the INTERNATIONAL MONETARY INSTITUTIONS,
influential Media Groups and the US neoconservatives etc. because they defied
neoliberal geo-economics and geopolitics, and succeeded in avoiding austerity
measures, as well as avoiding of stepping into the debt trap, instigated by the
IMF etc. which led the country to default in 2001.
Since the KIRCHNERS’ (Center
left) took rein back in 2003, their “unorthodox” but successful governing of ARGENTINA
infuriated the ARGENTINE “conservative” political opposition, which are
supported by international cooperation’s and the ARGENTINE oligarchy. Unlike
other countries, ARGENTINA in reality does not have a political party system as
such. Granted, when election time arrives, different so called political
"parties" with fancy names start emerging, but in reality they are
one man shows of ambitious self-seeking individuals, mostly of who are from the
large but fractured PERONIST movement, but with completely different political
ideologies.
ARGENTINE
SELLOUT
There is of course the
Party of MAURICIO MACRI called PRO, an ultra-conservative political entity and
contester for the presidential elections this year, which can be viewed as the
opposition. Nevertheless the party lacks long-term political objectives and so
far presidential hopeful MACRI has not showcased a political strategy /
objectives, if elected, other than lambasting every move the current government
instigates, but lacking to offer a sustainable alternative from his part.
His advantage is that the
Media conglomerates, CLARIN GROUP - LA NACION and the ARGENTINE oligarchy
clearly favor him, who some claim are the real opposition in the ARGENTINE
political landscape. Naturally these entities are in favor of conservative and
orthodox politics in order to protect their corporate and private interests.
Clarin Media Group founder Hector Magnetto and the Military Junta |
Since 2003 the media
giant CLARIN GROUP and LA NACION have been supporting MACRI and thus are the
main and powerful “invisible opposition” which oppose the current government.
Misinformation, lack of objectivity etc. both in CLARIN GROUPS TV News Channels
as well as print media are daily occurrence in ARGENTINA. Mainstream Media are
facing “credibility issues” around the globe and are engaged in an Information
war, but in ARGENTINA the Info war has reached staggering proportions and thus
cannot be seen as an impartial entity. Thus
making ARGENTINES 2015 election campaign a political snake pit, not to mention
the credibility and seriousness of the candidates and their political
supporters. For example:
FRANCISCO DE NARVÁEZ the
multi billionaire, a governor of BUENOS AIRES hopeful who physically assaults
journalists (Since then DE NARVÁEZ has withdrawn his bid for governor of BUENOS AIRES, beginning of June)
De Narvaez and alleged assault victim |
Macri right, Impersonator left |
According to some international political observers, MACRI represents everything that led ARGENTINA towards the crisis in 2001. He is a follower of MENEM and the ultraconservative political and economic fraction of the country, who would like to see the dictatorship back in place.
As the mayor of BUENOS
AIRES city he has governed with an historical record budget and at the same
time quadruplicated the debt of the city. Other than the controversial “METROBUS”
system, which some claim had construction companies involved that have close
ties to the city mayor, the promised 10km subway extension a year also not
materialized. Not to mention the move to erase the public healthcare and
education system in the city. Never the less he seems to have a large number of
supporters within the city, the majority of which send their children to
expensive private schools and are able to afford private healthcare etc. (A
portion of the middle class who sincerely believe that MACRI will care of
them)
TRIO INFERNALE?
MACRI, CLARING GROUP AND ELIOTT MANAGEMENT
Nevertheless one should
not underestimate him for he is a millionaire and thus can put a lot of money
in his campaigns and in most likelihood has the support of such entities such
as PAUL SINGERS ELIOTT MANAGEMENT, the Hedge Fund currently suing ARGENTINA.

CLARÍN, MACRI AND VULTURE FUNDS - ELLIOTT MANAGEMENT
MEDIA CONGLOMERATE AND ELLIOTT MANAGEMENT HIDE CASH IN BUILDING FAMOUS FOR ITS SECRECY
The offices of two subsidiary companies owned by the CLARÍN GROUP media conglomerate in the UNITED STATES are based in the same building as other shell companies controlled by ELLIOTT MANAGEMENT, the “vulture” fund of billionaire PAUL SINGER, according to the findings of a new investigation by ARGENTINE TV News station C5N.
VLG ARGENTINA and GRUPO CLARÍN SERVICES, which are both under the wing of the CLARÍN GROUP, are registered at Orange Street 1209, Wilmington, Delaware, a building where several international corporations are legally defined, allegedly in order to evade taxes.
Both firms work alongside ELLIOTT in a building complex managed by THE CORPORATION TRUST, a firm with many complaints because of renting offices to large economic groups which seek to evade taxes.
ELLIOT CAPITAL Advisors, the ENGLISH branch of ELLIOT MANAGMENT, has its address registered as Orange Street 1209, as does ELLIOT ASSOCIATES, one of the first companies created by SINGER in 1977, and the PAUL SINGER FAMILY FOUNDATION, according to official documents from the SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION. All three share the building with CLARÍN GROUP companies, according to the group’s balance sheet.
ELLIOT MANAGEMENT has been leading a case against ARGENTINA in the NEW YORK courts, blocking the country from paying its foreign debt until a more favorable settlement over debt defaulted in 2001 is reached with them.
In a hearing, Judge THOMAS GRIESA asked the country to engage in negotiations with ELLIOT and the remaining so-called “vulture funds” to move forward with an agreement. According to a 2012 investigation by the NEW YORK TIMES, the building at 1209 North Orange is home to at least 285,000 companies.
These corporations include some of the biggest in the world, such as AMERICAN AIRLINES, APPLE, BANK OF AMERICA, BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY, CARGILL, COCA-COLA, FORD, GENERAL ELECTRIC, GOOGLE, JPMORGAN CHASE, and WAL-MART.
Companies linked to convicted pyramid-schemer BERNIE MADOFF were once also based in that building in DELAWARE.

He manages to politically
polarize voters in BUENOS AIRES and to some extend in the province of BUENOS
AIRES, where roughly 40% percent of the ARGENTINE population live. Part of this can be contributed to the backing
of the influential CLARIN GROUP who help him and his public advisor DURÁN BARBA
to focusing on the lesser educated voters that seem to be easier to influence
through well-orchestrated media campaigns.

ARGENTINA, BARELY 30 YEARS OF DEMOCRACY, A YOUNG NATION TRYING TO FIND ITS BEARING
Furthermore some argue
that asides of well-planned marketing, siding mainstream media, money and oligarchs
who support him, his management skills are questionable.
He will probably pay off
the vulture funds, sell off nationalized companies and fire heaps of public
employees. Some say that he would put ARGENTINA on its knees again in front of
the IMF. Meaning that the country would be debt ridden, just as was the case before
the default.
Quotes of an international forum
WOULD MACRI MAKE A GOOD PRESIDENT?
- Not at all. I live in BUENOS AIRES and I know how he destroyed this beautiful city. When he and his gang open the mouth you always get the impression that they believe people are stupid and, worse, you don't know if they are clinically stupid or maquiavelic masterminds.
- He and his gang are just the younger generation of the same people that led this country to the ruin.
- Yes, he would.
- Of course, if you ask a left leaning person, he would say no, because MACRI is considered a right wing politician.
- The fact is that he is a very moderate politician who is far away from the typical demagogic populism of the political class (peronism of all kinds and marxists).
- As a major of BUENOS AIRES, he has done many good things. And the fact he did it all with the national government making him tripping and putting obstacles on his way makes it all the more remarkable.
- Unfortunately, many people here lack education and knowledge on political and economic matters, and they were taught that if someone has rather liberal ideas, he is diabolic and an enemy to beat. Edit: when I say "liberal" I mean orthodox economic principles, not in the American interpretation of this term.
- So, no, he won't make a good president. He would make a worse president than all the worst president we had.
- He is, in a lot of senses, like CARLOS MENEM, without the "peronist" part. If you think CARLOS MENEM was a good president then you can consider MACRI will be a good president.
PRESIDENTIAL
HOPEFUL MAURICIO MACRI THE NEW GEORGE W. BUSH?
(Extracts from an Article originally published by Buenos Aires Herald and written by Juan
Manuel D'Angelo)
What motivates people to
run for the presidency of their country? Maybe they are motivated by the desire
to help people or, perhaps, they seek the prestige and the power that comes
with the office. MAURICIO MACRI, the mayor of BUENOS AIRES, who is running for
president of ARGENTINA in 2015 is seemingly motivated by another reason. He
hides his personal motivation which is to earn the respect of his father, FRANCO
MACRI, and prove to him (and the rest of ARGENTINES) that he has been
underestimated. MAURICIO’S father is a self-made man.
FRANCO MACRI and his
younger siblings came from ITALY to ARGENTINA at the end of the 1940s, barely
speaking SPANISH and not knowing what the future would hold for them. In 1951,
during the height of the first PERONISM, the young ITALIAN founded a small
construction company, which became the cornerstone of his business empire.

MAFIA
AND BUREAUCRACY ARE THE WORST PROBLEMS
Over the years, the boy
born in ROME became the owner of one of the largest business groups in the
country: construction companies (SIDECO and others), automotive companies
(Sevel) and even garbage collection (Manliba). Moreover, in 2003, during the
presidency of NESTOR KIRCHNER, the MACRI GROUP took over the management of CORREO
ARGENTINO, the national postal company. MAURICIO MACRI, enjoyed the benefits of
having a successful father. He was educated in private schools, and at the age
of 18 (the same age as his father was when he came to ARGENTINA) MAURICIO MACRI
entered the UNIVERSIDAD CATOLICA ARGENTINA where he graduated as a Civil
Engineer. There the MACRI story is not very different from any other son of a
successful entrepreneur, who is prepared to succeed his father as head of the
family business. However, the young MAURICIO had other aspirations.
Historically his relationship with his father was never easy. For several years MAURICIO MACRI held various positions in the family businesses but it was never clear whether these jobs were won fair and square or simply were a way to temper tensions between father and son. Perhaps MACRI was motivated to launch a political career by the desire to please a father who would never see his son as a self-made man. MAURICIO’S challenge was to be acknowledged by the public.

A
TRULY SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS MAN DOES NOT GO INTO POLITICS
He achieved this through
sports. In 1995, MAURICIO MACRI became the president of Club ATLÉTICO BOCA
JUNIORS, the most important of the ARGENTINA football teams. During his twelve
years as the highest authority of the club, BOCA won major sporting
competitions and MACRI became known to the public. In 2003 he ran for mayor of
the city of BUENOS AIRES. Although he won the first round by a narrow margin,
in the runoff he finished second behind ANÍBAL IBARRA. In 2005 he started his
own political party, the PRO (REPUBLICAN PROPOSAL) which adopted many exponents
of the right. That same year he was elected as a national deputy for the
federal capital of the country, a position he occupied until 2007 when he was
elected mayor.
SEEKING
APPROVAL OF THE PARENTS
The story of MAURICIO
MACRI is much like that of former President GEORGE W. BUSH. Both wanted the
approval of their parents and both used sports to propel their political
careers (MACRI as president of BOCA JUNIORS and BUSH as General Manager of the TEXAS
RANGERS). FRANCO MACRI criticized the political aspirations of his son and on
more than one occasion FRANCO himself announced this. Just recently, in an
interview for ARGENTINA magazine NOTICIAS, the octogenarian businessman said: “My son has the mind of a president, but not
the heart.” To make matters worse, the father of the mayor of BUENOS AIRES supports
the continuation of the KIRCHNER government which he considers “the most
logical government since the time of FRONDIZI.”
For MAURICIO MACRI, who
was positioned to be one of the opponents of the government of CRISTINA
FERNADEZ DE KIRCHNER, this has a double negative effect: it affects his public
image and confirms that his father will never see him as his equal.
